All black belts 3rd degree and above are required to have an IIC course at their current rank.  Everyone 4th degree and above is encouraged to obtain an International Instructor Certificate.  The certification is good for 3 years and must be renewed and kept current to remain on the ITF website.  It is renewed by taking the course and by receiving the training certificate at each course.  The International Instructor Certificate only needs to be purchased once.  The training certificates are proof of continued education in the area.
